Pacific Eye Center

The owner and ophthalmologist of the Pacific Eye Center selected Architects Hawaii to carry out his vision of a retail, office, and exam facility with state-of-the-art technology and cutting edge design
The client wanted this one-of-a-kind building and interior environment to be modern and innovative with a bold design statement for the interior that would distinguish it from any other building in Lihu‘e. Yet he wanted it to still appeal to local clientele who support his clinical services.

It was determined that main design elements would use organic forms and colors. The palette of finishes and furnishings were affordable, yet alluded to the high-end, contemporary image the client desired.

Playing off the shape of the eye, curved elements delineate areas and draw clients into the space.

The biggest interior challenge was incorporating water features as they initially seemed difficult to design and cost prohibitive. However, they were made simple and affordable by purchasing them pre-manufactured, the result being visually and audibly dramatic.

Scope of work included concept development and space planning, creating a palate of finishes appropriate for retail and clinical services, selecting FF&E to complement the design theme, producing drawings from concept sketches to construction documents, elevations, lighting layouts, final finish and FF&E plans as well as finish and FF&E specifications.
