Straub Clinic and Hospital Oncology Renovation
With a growing need for additional space in its Onocolgy clinic, Straub Clinic and Hospital brought Architects Hawaii on board to redesign and renovate its facility.
The project included the renovation of the existing Internal Medicine clinic in the Milnor Building, which then allowed half of the space to be used for Oncology; renovation of the existing Oncology clinic to create six additional patient bays in the Palma building; and renovation of the existing nurses station in the Palma building.
From the very first day of the project it was determined that the theme would center around nature and, in particular, “bamboo” elements. The decision was made to create a healing environment that would draw on the gentle colors and life giving images of nature and good health.
Bamboo design art glass was used between patient bays to provide a connection to nature within the interior space.
Large viewing windows were created through cut outs in the existing concrete wall providing a view to a healing garden, which was created on an existing plaza between the Palma and Milnor Buildings.
The carpet selected reflected a bamboo print, again bringing views back to nature and its soothing gentleness.
