Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation
A dramatic resurrection of an 1800s nondescript Chinatown noodle factory gave this internationally recognized nonprofit a bright, airy and welcoming working environment, while honoring the Chinatown tradition. The building, selected by Mrs. Alger, had windows on one side only. AHL created an atrium-like space between the second level and ground floor and added new clerestory windows in the rear bringing daylight into the dark space. A central curved stairway is a focal point that also provides practical and attractive people circulation.
