El Nido Resort Development
Development is rare on the Philippines’ Palawan islands, which is mostly dedicated to preservation. The utmost sensitivity to the natural environment was required to preserve the islands’ pristine quality and virgin spaces. AHL’s master plan allowed for points of denser development, such as the main building and pool, to give way to areas left mostly untouched. To highlight native Filipino culture, AHL burrowed into the past to the ancestral houses of the 1800s, extending that design concept from the exterior to the interior. Local stone, wood, metal and glass display rich patterns throughout.
