Hale Pawa’a
AHL was the architect of record for this nine-story, 147,000-square-foot Design/Build medical/professional office building that provides approximately 127,000 square feet of rental space.
The custom sunshade and main canopy design was patterned after a canoe outrigger to associate the building to its name Hāle Pawa‘a (meaning canoe enclosure) and thus giving significance to the place.
Window systems for the building have been carefully designed considering aesthetics, energy efficiency, maintainability, and day lighting. The ground floor was provided with storefront windows as a device for joining the building interior with the exterior landscaped yard.
Steel W-shaped columns and beams carry the gravity loads while an inner concrete shaft wall resist winds and earthquake forces. The structure is supported by drilled piers.
