Hawaii State Capitol
The Hawai‘i State Capitol Building owes its striking symbolic forms to the virtues of the 50th State and the design expertise of Architects Hawaii and John Carl Warnecke Architects. Designed for the State of Hawai‘i Department of Accounting
and General Services, its grand exterior shallow pool is evocative of the Pacific Ocean. 60 ft high columns represent royal palm trees while the House and Senate Chambers spring from the surface of the pool symbolizing the volcanic islands. The central court and open rotunda also represent freedom in Hawai‘i. To this day AHL continues to provide architectural services for the Capitol, preserving this iconic landmark.
