Hilo Medical Center Emergency Department Renovations and Expansion
This project consists of a 7,000 square foot renovation of the existing department and a 4,000 square foot expansion. The number of exam/treatment rooms increase from 14 to 28, allowing for approximately 42,000 annual visits.
A new walk-in entry, reception, waiting and triage area provide a welcoming and calming environment for patients and visitors.
The clinical area consists of two nurse stations, which will provide flexibility. One area will be used for fast tracking and the other for more critical patients.
The exterior design of the expansion accentuates the visibility of the Emergency Department in the existing campus and blend with the existing building.
Use of glazing, regional building materials and artwork mosaics by local artists further enhances the Emergency Department’s visibility to the community.
Also included is the addition of a new ramp for more direct ambulance access.
