Sand Island Sewage Treatment Plant

Visual and acoustic buffering was essential in this project. Situated at the entrance to Honolulu Harbor at Sand Island, this facility had to fit in with the view from Honolulu offices and be concealed from an adjacent beach park.[br]A fenestration system of precast concrete wall panels and round concrete columns with deep recessed glass established a strong and unified aesthetic with a delightful play of light and shadow. The system also allowed for flexibility as the placement of process equipment changed frequently. A landscaped tree-line earth bern creates a beautiful natural separation from the beach park.
