U.S. Army Reserve Center, American Samoa

Architects Hawaii Ltd. (AHL) designed this modern administration, training, maintenance, and storage facility on a 6.1-acre lot just north of Pago Pago International Airport for the U.S. Army Reserve in American Samoa.
Ancillary functions such as air conditioning, dehumidification, underground utilities (sewer, water, power, data and communications, security systems), and parking facilities were included.
The vehicle maintenance facility included a fueling area, service bays with bridge crane, flammable and hazardous material storage, and a heavy-equipment and truck garage.
Due to the lack of storm shelters on the island, this facility was designed to be functional during hurricanes that occur in this area. It can house and feed people during these kinds of emergencies.
Incorporated into the project were Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection measures such as building hardening, standoff requirements, vehicular traffic control, and utility protection.
Other security measures such as perimeter security cameras were included.
The A/E team developed a layout that would combine individual buildings into a single homogenous design in keeping with site and user constraints.
