(Honolulu, October 2017) – AHL announces the successful completion of the renovation of the Lili‘uokalani Trust coworking/meeting space, located in downtown Honolulu. This interior renovation was led by senior interior designer Colette Lee, IIDA, NCIDQ, LEED AP and project architect Fred Hong, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP.
Key design features include a custom mural, which honors the legacy of Queen Liliʻuokalani. Trust kamaliʻi (beneficiaries) assisted with the creation and painting of the mural, which contains symbols of many of the Queen’s passions, such as musical notes reflecting her love of music and the many mele (songs) she composed, the pua liliʻu (crown flower), and the pulelehua (monarch butterflies) gathering around the blossoms. The flowers are symbolic of her legacy: her love for and care of Hawaiian children.
Other important upgrades include a strong emphasis on creating hybrid spaces with flexible work, meeting, and collaborating spaces all within a colorful palette. “All of the furniture can be moved and the spaces can be morphed to function differently depending on the need. To provide an element of fun, juxtaposed with a functional feature, the hexagon graphic wall can also be also be used as a writing surface, providing an informal meeting area for brainstorming discussions,” shares Lee.
Other key amenities with the renovation include: a quiet room, a conference room, a kitchenette, and an ADA restroom. There is also outdoor seating along the building exterior for meeting and conversing.
