Mariel M. Moriwake

AIA, CDT, LEED AP, EDAC

Associate, Project Architect

After graduating from college, Mariel moved to Japan to teach English. This was a unique opportunity for her to travel and immerse herself in a culture that embodies serenity, beauty, and a strong connection to nature. Her life in rural Japan deepened her love for architecture that heals both people and the planet. She returned to Hawaii inspired to create healthy environments and bridge her Japanese roots by serving on the board of the United Japanese Society of Hawaii. With over 13 years of experience in healthcare architecture, Mariel likes to utilize evidence based design to research, educate, and advocate for improved outcomes. She now mentors and supports the next generation of architects through active and continued engagement with the student community, frequently lecturing at UH as well as serving as a dissertation advisor for Doctoral candidates. Mariel enjoys the great outdoors and spends time hiking, running, and snowboarding. She is also a co-captain of AHL’s tennis team.
